Well in school I will be taking my Linux course and it looks like they use Fedora. So I burned Fedora 10, since the book appears to come with Fedora 2 which seems to be ancient. I need USB for my phone and iPod!

So anyways today I installed it in a VM just to get used to it before I must use it.

I was thinking about using Ubuntu for this unit as I have experience with it, but that is the reason why I am not using it. I want to learn and try another distro, and this is the perfect opportunity!

EDIT: Well 5GB isn't enough for Fedora so I had to remove packages to make room. I think I removed a package it needs to start because my Fedora VM won't start...

I also discussed that it's best to use Fedora as it is most likely more true to the book than Ubuntu

It's seems alright. It's basically the same thing as Ubuntu, a Linux kernel with XWindows running Gnome.

I fail to see any reason why to use Fedora when I can just install Ubuntu, but maybe there are long time Fedora users who say "Why would I install Ubuntu when I can just install Fedora"

Some of the programs are the same (Totem as the movie player, Firefox for internet) but some things are different.

Like in Ubuntu you type
Code:
apt-get install whatever

and in Fedora you type
Code:
yum install whatever

My VM doesn't boot now though. I had to make free space so I uninstalled a bunch of stuff and have a feeling I removed something it needs. I made a 5 GB virtual hard drive and that was hardly enough (I had 20 MB left), and Fedora takes longer than Ubuntu to install.

But that's just from my experience so far...

What's the best way to clean my 100% cotton fedora? I have dogs, so their hair is in it, which i manage to get out with a lint roller. And their are some minor stains.

Are you a bot or a noob (no offense) but the Fedora we are talking about here is not made of cotton. It's a Linux distro...
Edit, they are both a bot and a noob... Posted BS then edited it in the hope someone would see it before me, but that's very unlikely... Also, they are very stupid because the did it 6 days after Gord and I posted here... If we didn't post them it mighta worked...

You would have to ask MPG as he's the Linux expert!

First off you seem like you might be a spammer who posts something that doesn't make sense (see vadenasy above, if you are a spammer not very wise to go in the same thread, I will be keeping a close watch on this thread) and later come and edit it with advertisements. Well it's not like you can do that, once you make a post you have 5 minutes to edit it. After 5 minutes you cannot edit your posts... I did that to fight the kind of spam vadenasy did and to prevent people like John's Shadow from editing their posts and deleting the content (you cannot delete posts, but if you edit you could erase the post and type in something else).

Anyways, to answer your question Fedora Core 2 and 9 are old. I used 10 in school because that's what they had on the Share. 11 was out but I was too lazy to download it and 12 was in beta. 12 is now out.

As for putting it on the PS3, you will have to find a Power PC Version since that's what the PS3 uses.

For Ubuntu you use the same CD that you use for Mac computers with PPC CPUs and you have to install it a little different (there is a guide).

There is a guide for FC5 (As I said that's outdated)

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=235078
Apparently Fedora 12 (They stopped calling it Fedora Core, I think 9 was the last Fedora Core, 10 was just called Fedora 10) is minimal.

There might be versions specifically for the PS3 so you don't have to do extra steps to get it working...

well after closely reviewing Madriva spring and 2010 i have found Ubuntu 9.10 wickedly close to windwos 7. You can do everything that you can in win7 in ubuntu, there are ony 2 things that are major downfalls,

I) Netowrk stability and performace

II) Gaming, Ubuntu has no DX10 Emulation

DX9 can be emulated useing WinE how ever you have to configure the WinE config file via command line

other then that Ubuntu is a easy swich from the windows world

Best wishes

and some up while u have it
